Mountain Community Health Partnership is comprised of Bakersville Community Health Center (BCHC), the Spruce Pine Health Center (SPHC), and Celo Health Center, all non-profit primary care practices serving Mitchell, Yancey, and surrounding counties. BCHC/SPHC are Federally Qualified Health Centers and recognized as Patient Centered Medical Homes. In 2017 BCHC/SPHC partnered with Celo Health Center in Yancey County to form the Mountain Community Health Partnership (MCHP.) The organizations have a combined 118 years’ experience in providing care to the residents of Mitchell and Yancey County. Each health center will continue to provide the same high quality of care patients have experienced for many years, and they are committed to improving the health of the communities they serve. They see patients regardless of their ability to pay, and they also take patients with coverage from all major insurance companies.
Greens at Spruce Pine
The Greens at Spruce Pine is a one hundred thirty-seven bed facility that offers long-term skilled care for its residents. Other services provided are intermediate nursing home care and physical, occupational, and speech therapy as well as short-term placement.
Community Services in Mitchell County
Mitchell County’s community service agencies provide assistance to a variety of our residents. Mountain Opportunity Center located in Bakersville provides daily programs for the adult handicapped. Mitchell County Senior Center provides daily activities and lunch for senior citizens and also operates the County’s Meals on Wheels program. The Toe River Health District of Mitchell County Health Department offers nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, social work, and in-home aide services. The Mitchell Community Health Partnership works to promote wellness and preventative care services to the county and have been recognized as a “Champion of Change” in North Carolina Medicine.
Mitchell House
Mitchell House located at 13681 Highway 226 S in Spruce Pine is a 40-bed assisted living facility with a dedicated Alzheimer wing. Spacious living rooms, private or companion apartments, formal and informal dining rooms, and landscaped outdoor areas provide a safe, secure and comfortable environment for each resident. A full range of activities are conducted on-site with cookouts, outdoor leisure times, trips for shopping, concerts and tours. Transportation is available for shopping, doctor’s appointments and outings.
